Residency Program

Residency and Sculpture Park

“I wanted to create a residency which reflected the power of the mountain using the energy of city-based artist, in order to create an international dialogue as a pioneering platform for free public art in the Alps.”

– Co-Founder Madeleine Paternot

The Verbier 3-D Sculpture Park Residency is an invitation-only residency. The international and Swiss artists selected for the residency will have contact with the local community in a social capacity to help form ideas and projects among artists, residents and tourists. This will create a lasting international network of artists, curators, collectors and art aficionados and connect with people normally not interested in art. The Residency is an incubator for ideas and creativity.

Each artist is required to produce new work during the time frame that they are in Verbier. They are asked to dedicate two of their days to teaching contemporary art to the local children based on their artist practice.

The Residency keeps an open-door policy, so the public is able to see the work in progress. This approach demystifies the making of art and creates a more intimate and informed experience of the viewer.

Each artist is offered the opportunity to do a 2 to 3 day printmaking workshop at l’ECAV (Ecole Cantonale des Arts Visuels). One of their final prints will become part of the permanent collection of the Musée Cantonale des Beaux-Arts.

Sustainability and Tourism

The 3-D Foundation strives to create sustainable art for Verbier and its surroundings. Sustainable development promoted by the United Nations since the 1980’s, includes economical, social and ecological aspects. 3-D Foundation is at the forefront of art and education. Public art and sculpture parks attract tourism and expenditure, contributing to the economical growth of an area. The interaction between the artists and the local community provides social sustainability, and the annually changing non-toxic quality of the work in nature promotes environmental sustainability.
